New Trend: Engagement Registry

I was listening to a local radio station on my way to work this morning and they said there is a new trend starting up. Engagement registries.

Huh? Well apparently newly engaged couples are starting up engagement registries, in addition to wedding registries.

People on the radio thought it was absolutely ridiculous. They said they felt like it was the couple expecting more gifts and they most likely wouldn't get them both an engagement gift and wedding gift.

I asked on twitter and the answers were pretty much the same.

Mychael and I didn't do an engagement registry, didn't even know about it, but that was almost a year ago.

We didn't even do an engagement party. It may sound completely stupid but as soon as we got engaged it was on facebook and the congrats came pouring in. We didn't really see a reason to have an engagement party. Just our choice.

...personally I would feel awful doing an engagement registry. I guess I would feel bratty. I actually feel awful even going to do an wedding registry. I know that is completely ridiculous of me. I know it is a way to let your guests and those who want to buy gifts for you what you want or your style.

I usually just send a card to the newly engaged couple congratulating them.

Have you heard of an engagement registry before?

Do you have one, or will you have one when you get engaged?

I found this list below on Pinterest, we'll be doing our wedding registration soon so I'll be looking at this.
Of course, any advise you can throw our way about registries is welcomed.
I have a feeling we will be completely overwhelmed.

I have a question for you!

How do you deal with (internet) drama?

'cause let me tell you, up until I decided to do the whole pity friendships (which I no longer do) and up until the new breed of bloggers were born drama never really entered into my life.
(other than the high-school bullwinkle, but i'm almost 30... that's been a long time.)

Truth.

I hate arguments, I hate drama, I hate cattiness.

If you followed me around you'd hear me say "ok" a lot.

I just don't really care to get into it with people. People don't push me over.

But if I really just don't want to hear what they have to say, I just say "ok", smile, and walk away.

I kind of got that from working in the pharmacy. People are set on what they believe, odds are you will just be wasting your breath.

You see, I didn't sign up for Birchbox because I felt like I would have too much clutter. I hate clutter, Mychael hates clutter... it would be no bueno in our house.

Blogger's Biggest Loser II

Hola people! =)

It's the 2nd edition of Blogger's Biggest Loser!
You can see my 1st edition post here.
If you didn't join in the 1st week, no worries, join in this week!

These were the goals listed and what I am currently working on:

go to the gym at least 3 times a week. 30mins cardio, 30mins weights.
get out of the 140's... I would be okay with 130lbs.
flat stomach, sculpted arms, back, and legs.
No fast food for the month of January.

I've woken up at 4am Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays to get to the gym.
I love it! There is almost NO ONE there! I'm not much of a people person when I am at the gym so this works out perfectly. Plus I find that those that are there that early seem to be a little more dedicated to their workout. Which means I get less annoyed. They seem to help each other out and encourage each other. I think that's great!! I was sick last week, so I wasn't able to go to the gym every day like I wanted. I set my alarm, and if I woke up feeling normal I'd go. I think I am better this week... let's hope.

I've lost 4lbs, and am now 140lbs even! Whoohoo!
I need to do my measurements, but I've been too lazy to go to Wally world to buy a fabric tape measure.
Some of my pants are fitting a little more loosely! That is great all on its own!

Obviously there is no sculpting yet... but hopefully soon enough!
I've been fairly good with no fast food, we slipped up once when we were out running errands and didn't want to spend $20+ on lunch... so McDonald's it was. $10.00

Mychael wants to get healthier as well so he has joined my gym and has been wanting to eat a healthier diet! This definitely helps!

Truth. I couldn't have seen this pin at a better time.

You know, no matter what you do there will always be others trying to bring you down.

I'm striving in all aspects of my life to be a better me.

I really have to learn that what other people think really doesn't matter.

So what that I am not considered "obese" and others still think that I am "skinny" because I am not as big as they are. I am unhappy with my body and have been told that I do have too much fat on it.

Therefore I will continue with my fitness goals. No one can discourage me from this anymore.

So what that some people think college is stupid?

I want my degree(s) and I will work my butt off to get them.

I am smart, I have a supportive fiance and family. I can do it.

The early mornings, late nights, and declining of social events will all be worth it.

So what if some people have had failed marriages and keep telling me that everything will change when I get married. I'm not them, Mychael isn't like their psychotic ex husbands. I will get married, and if things go south I will try my hardest to resolve our issues. If that doesn't work, I'm not afraid to walk away.

So what if I get excited to see that my follower count continues to grow. You know I started this blog in 2008 just as a place to put my thoughts. Then I started to have a couple people here and there make comments. I started to read other blogs and comment as well. This past year I started networking and it has been so much fun! I never knew blogging could be a source of friendships and fun!

I don't have a set number that I want to get to one day, I just love meeting little milestones!

We all have so much pressure that we put on ourselves, and that others put on us.

Just be you, who cares about them.

Today I seem to have a case of the sads.
Do you ever feel that way?

I just woke up this morning feeling this way.

Anyway. A little update. My parents think they may have a place that qualifies for the assistance they need.
This makes me oh so happy, but at the same time I'm reluctant to let myself be happy.
What if it falls through? They already have their hopes so high up, I don't want them to be let down.

My parent's birthdays are this weekend! I had the perfect gifts selected for them! I knew they would love them. But when they told me they had to move... they said they need an electric washer and dryer...
Therefore I figured their gifts could wait and I could help them buy a new washer and dryer.
If anyone locally (houston) has a set or knows someone selling a set super cheap please let me know. We're on the lookout! =/ **UPDATED** my parents are also looking for a full size bed, and a lawn mower for the new place.

Mychael called me... he had some bad news.
Nothing that affects us directly, but family members, and I really hope everything works out for the best.
I know things will work out for the best. Everything happens for a reason... right?

Staying Fit, Fierce, and Fabulous

Hey friends!! I'm Cait from Fit Fierce and Fabulous! Thanks so much to Celia for having me guest post on her amazing blog today! Isn't she fabulous? I thought I would talk to you about some tips that I follow to make sure I'm motivated to work out (and yes I do try to work out about 5 + days a week!) Remember your past

Think back to previous attempts at losing weight or exercising. What made you quit before and are you on the same path now? If so, you've got yourself a pattern. Break it by figuring out what went wrong before. Some possibilities

A diet that's too strict or too difficult to follow
Feeling deprived of your favorite foods
Feeling tired and sore from too many workouts
Confusion about how to exercise the right way
Being so busy, you can't figure out how to fit it all in

Make your own list and then figure out how to get around these issues. If the diet is too strict, make smaller changes you can live with every day. If you're busy, try shorter workouts. Change what you're doing until it works for you! Remember, everyone is different so what you may be trying to 'change' may be different then your best friend/spouse.

Pump Yourself Up

Maybe it'll be difficult to replicate the excitement you felt on January 1 when you were so ready to lose that weight or gain that muscle. But, you can get a little more fired up by going back to your original goal and remembering why you set it in the first place. What are you trying to accomplish? Remind yourself that what you do today has everything to do with where you'll be in 6 months.

Something I love to do before I do my morning work out is look at a post it that I stuck to my bathroom mirror. It says "Don't doubt! Go Work Out!" That always helps me to keep motivated, keep going, and know that every time I enter that gym, I am AMAZING to keeping up with my goals!

Track Your Progress

One simple way to stay motivated is to look back on how far you've come. Keeping a simple calendar of the workouts you've done gives you something tangible you can happily flip through, adding up all the days you exercised. Plus, knowing you have to write your accomplishments down may give you that extra push you need to get moving.

Regularly weighing yourself, taking measurements, getting your body fat tested or even doing your own fitness and endurance tests can help you stay on track. This Progress Chart is a great way to track how you're doing. If you have a Personal Trainer, they are more than happy to help you track your progress as well. Ask for copies of what they are doing with you so you can keep your own chart at home.

Be Open Minded

Being bored is the perfect time to try something new. You'll be more willing to try things you may have dismissed because they didn't fit within your definition of exercise. It could be bellydancing, a latin dance class or that spinning class at the gym. Or try something more mind/body like Pilates or yoga. I personally LOVE Pilates and have tried Yoga a few times. I'm still trying to motivate myself to do HOT YOGA with some girlfriends of mine. Having friends to help push you to try new things is always a fabulous thing as well!

However you feel you can pump yourself up, track your progress, be open minded and even MORE, always know that you helping your body. You're helping yourself to stay FIT, FIERCE and as always, the FABULOUS person that you are all becoming. Remember that this isn't something that is going to happen within a few days or maybe even weeks. We're all at different stages of attempting to be in the "best shape of our life" and that's okay!

If you have any other tips that you have to stay motivated I would love to hear them! Stay amazing bloggers! You're doing your body and your friends wonders but changing your life, one work out at a time!

My parents have another housing meeting today.

All they know is that they have to be out of their current apartment by the end of January because the current housing assistance funding is being cut off. They don't know where they are going next, so I hope this meeting goes well. Can you please keep them in your thoughts?

...and if you have another moment to spare, pray that their property is sold soon so that they may have somewhere to permanently call their home! Seeing them live on a month by month basis never knowing when they have to leave is hard and I know it wears them down.

We had our second shoot with Phenom Photographers in early December.

Reggie wanted to make sure we had photos with the sun shining since our 1st shoot was gloomy.

I have to say we are truly blessed to have such an amazing and caring photographer!

We took our second set of photos at the Kemah Boardwalk.

It was sooo cold! & windy! I can't tell you how many times I complained about my hair, or pouted. The shoot was fun nonetheless and he snagged some great shots.

I think the first one is my favorite =)

Blogger's Biggest Loser I

Hello my dears!
It's the 1st edition of Blogger's Biggest Loser!

I have been looking for a way to keep myself accountable with my fitness goals, this is perfect! I have to confess to all of you I am super nervous. I am the biggest I have ever been in my life.

I am upset with myself on a daily basis right now. I am to the point that when I eat, I feel extreme guilt. This is not healthy. I have had meltdowns in the last couple weeks because I am so unhappy with my current weight and overall look of my body.

Let's give you a little background. I'm 5' 3&1/2" ... the half counts...
all through high school I weighed about 90-95lbs and was between a 00 and 1 jeans.
I always tried to gain weight and it just didn't work. I ate like crap, hello soda and pint of icecream for lunch. I could never gain weight. Oh & throw in the fact that I had modeled for about a year, all I heard was I could not go over 100lbs. I knew this was not healthy at all. Needless to say, I dropped modeling.

Then after high school I finally gained weight, I stayed around 110-115lbs and was in size 5-7 jeans.
I was pretty happy with this, I looked a lot healthier.

At around 25 I went through another little weight gain and stayed between 115-120lbs. I stayed in size 7 jeans. Okay with me. I started working out at a gym with a personal trainer. My reasoning? I hear that as you get closer to your 30's you start to gain more weight and its harder to keep it off. If I decide to have children I want to make sure that I can bounce back to my prebaby body, I hear it's easier if you are fit before hand. Of course my Pops having health problems in his mid30's was another reason.

Now, I am 27... and I am at 144lbs. I would be totally okay with this if I had been working out hardcore...but this is all fatty weight. I am in size 11 jeans and even those are starting to be way too tight. My size 8 dress pants barely close... I am not okay with being a 10. Typically if I don't like the weight I am at I just change my diet, and wa-la my weight drops. This time... it's not working. I worked with a personal trainer at my new gym and he told me I was borderline overweight. le sigh.

I can't help it, I am one of those people where looks do matter to me!

Happy New Year!!!!

I am actually heading to Dallas this morning!!

I want to say thank you to everyone who reads this little blog of mine.
I have come to meet some really great ladies through blogging and hope to continue to do so in 2012.

In 2012 I want to pop out of my little bubble from time to time.
People seem to think I am outgoing... I am not. I'm a shy one.
I also want to branch out and try some new things!

I want to continue to work on my fitness goals.
I want to hold myself accountable.

I will continue to work on becoming debt free.
It has already been well over a year since I have used any type of credit card. =)
"If you can't pay cash for it, then you don't need to purchase it" <-- words I live by.
(obviously with the exception of a house)

I want to continue my blog postings!
Wedding planning is coming along nicely. So many decisions to be made,
so many ideas to come together. I want to share everything here so I can always come back to it!

I will live my real life.
You may have noticed I am not on the tweet nearly as much as I used to be.
The Love and I both felt I was on there entirely too much. I was living in a virtual world. That is no bueno y'all. Since I have cut back I am able to spend more quality time with my sweet love & the furbabies. I am able to focus on me!

In 2012 I will become a Mrs and I can't wait!
I look forward to 2012 and hope to make the most of it!!

is for this little girl to have her brain surgery that she needs.

"This beautiful and sweet little girl is a 1 year old dachshund who was taken to a local shelter shortly after being spayed. Her “family” surrendered her because of “behavior issues". After Greta was spayed she started to cry when touched and would snip at the person touching her. Instead of taking Greta to a vet to determine the cause of these behaviors, Greta was dumped at a local shelter. She was automatically “labeled” as unadoptable due to this behavior. The shelter contacted Rescued Treasures for our help. "

"Greta was immediately taken to a veterinarian who felt that she was suffering from a neurological problem. Greta then saw a series of three neurologist, the first specialist believing that she had a skull malformation that caused fluid build-up and put pressure on her brain and spine."

"The results from the MRI showed a cyst and severe fluid on her brain and spine. Greta was then taken to Long Island for a consultation with a top neurosurgeon who believes that through surgery, the cyst can be removed and further fluid build-up can be prevented. Greta will have a 95% chance of a normal life. If surgery is not done, the prognosis is that Greta will have only a year or two of life while continuing on the medications."

"Thankfully, this wonderful specialist extended a professional courtesy because we are a non-profit rescue group, and has capped the cost of the surgery to $5,000."

I'm not much of a DIY'er these days but I had so much fun making this, it was super easy, and I didn't have to purchase a thing!

as i was getting ready for work one day a couple weeks ago the following conversation came up regarding our October 2012 wedding...

me: honey, what happens if you get cold feet?

mychael: i won't.

me: well, what happens if i get cold feet?

I tried Essie for the 1st time during the nail polish swap, and I have to say, so far I have no complaints.

Butter London seems to last long on my nails, and for someone who's nails grow fast, I'm impressed.

Happy Monday y'all!

The beautiful furkids.

I tried out Firehouse Subs for the first time and it was delicious!
We went to Chili's and typically I don't like their food, but they have a new Chicken Cajun Pasta plate... to die for!
I wish with all my heart I loved veggies, but I gag. =( Look how pretty that sandwich is!
I went to Skippers in Clear Lake Shores for the first time ever. I have to say, I wasn't impressed.

Well, I discovered that my phone has effects on it and I may have had a little too much fun with it.
Crave cupcakes are yummy, although I am not sure if they are better than Sprinkles yet.
Naked 2... I love it and have already thrown out my other eye shadows. True story.

Happy Friday!!!

This past week has been a strange one, no?

I took a little blog break, and I also backed off of twitter a bit.

Sometimes people make my head spin, and I needed to step away from both worlds,

just for a bit! =)

During my break I spent some time with Mychael watching movies,

reading, cooking, chatting, and playing with the kitties. Whee!

I was inspired by two bloggers over the past week & I took a couple funny/redic photos!

Which, apparently I failed to follow all directions. I wasn't supposed to look at the camera.

What can I say, I am a rule breaker. Rawr! ;)

Good Morning y'all!

I promised y'all I would bring you along our journey with

wedding planning and all of that good stuff...

I've been slacking, forgive me?

Last month Mychael and I took our engagement photos with

Reggie of Phenom Photographers!

Reggie is an amazing photographer, more importantly he is an amazing person.

I met Reggie at LA fitness about 3yrs ago, he was my personal trainer

Reggie was a breath of fresh air every time I came in.

He is one of those people that is always happy!!

We would chat during my workouts about life, family, friends,

school (he's a University of Houston alum!), and work.

It was like I was getting fit and having a

therapy session! =)

Sometimes after a workout he would show me some of his photography.

The work was amazing, breath taking and natural!

When Reggie turned into a full time photographer I knew that one day

he had to be the one who was at our wedding!!

When Mychael and I got engaged the first thing I told Mychael was

"Oh my god, we have to have Reggie!! If there is anything I have to have, it's Reggie!"

I didn't care about the venue, I cared about the photographer!

I would get married in a trashcan!

I am thrilled to show you some of our favorite shots from our engagement shoot.

Of course the location is the campus of the University of Houston.

It just wouldn't be right if they were taken anywhere else.

We will be heading out this weekend with Reggie to get a few more shots with some sun.

This day was gloomy, but we were still ever so pleased with the moments captured.

It's my Birthday month!

I am a New Years Eve baby!

I will be turning the big 2-7 this year!

I am so excited, I always get excited for my birthday,

Holiday Decorations/Decor

Last year was our 1st year in our place, so I am just starting

to collect holiday decorations/decor.

Our 1st mantel/fireplace

This year's mantel...

I'm sure I will do some switching around, and adding to :-)
I just wanted to get our house in the Christmas spirit ASAP!

and we have our little tree!

I bought this tree for Mychael when we were dating.

He told me that his family didn't put up a tree and didn't really do anything

special for Christmas.

As someone who lives in a house with a Mom that loves to make the holidays

special and a Dad that likes to spoil his girls, this was unacceptable.

So I bought Mychael this little tree for his bedroom.

Now it is our tree, and we add one new ornament each year to symbolize the number

of Christmas' we have celebrated together.

I also tricked Mychael into buying Poinsettias and the Snowman sign for our front balcony.
Doesn't it look festive??
My Grandma Lopez loved red, and she loved Poinsettias.

I can't wait to add more to our holiday decorations.

My favorite Christmas tradition is opening a gift at midnight on Christmas Eve!

My Mom and I have done this since I was a tot.
We would stay up watching movies and then wake my Dad up and open a gift.
Then head to bed, and wake up excited Christmas morning.

Now, I still try to stay up 'til midnight and since I don't live with my parents & I send them a Merry Christmas text! We also get to open a present, and on Christmas my parents come over... or we head over there.

Mychael and I also head out to the Moody Gardens Festival of Lights every year.
For the past 4 years we have been to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra! =)

I can't wait to continue on these traditions one day with a little tot of our own!

Happy Monday my dears!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving!

This year, Mychael and I actually had a great Thanksgiving.

Last year, on the eve of Thanksgiving we had to let our little girl go to the Rainbow Bridge.

We knew she had bad kidneys but she wouldn't let us treat...

but after speaking with the vet, and after an ultrasound they found that she had cancer

in her abdomen, it was inoperable and had taken over most of her organs...

We cancelled all plans, and mourned through all of our vacation.

My parents dropped by, and brought us plates of food... we didn't really eat

until days later...

Miss Kitty was my first cat.

She was our family cat. Before her, my Dad didn't like cats. He was a dog person.

Miss Kitty adopted him and told him who was boss, she became our first indoor cat.

After hurricane Ike, I moved in with Mychael and his parents.

...but I wasn't leaving my cats behind. Miss Kitty was one of the cats that came with me.

The family wasn't an animal family, Miss Kitty changed them.

Miss Kitty was stubborn and adopted Mychael,

she took over his boxes, his sub for his speakers, his chair and his lap.

I still can't believe she is gone, but I know she is in my heart.

...then, a month ago today...

I lost my Marco.

I cried myself to work that morning, burst into tears in my office, then cried myself home.

I didn't think I could ever survive without my Marco.

He slept on my bed since I was little, he was my movie watching partner.

He helped me study for my bio/chem tests, he watched me as I got ready for work

and greeted me when I got home...

I've had him since I was a kid.

I'm okay. I know he is in my heart. I know that he and his Mom - Miss Kitty are waiting

for Mychael and I at the rainbow bridge.

Miss you Marco, our little kitchen helper.

Our other two kitties have helped us tremendously.

I'll be adding them to the Furkids tab soon.

It's long over due.

Fave Gift Received EVER

Good gosh this is going to sound so cheesy,

but our home!!!

Mychael and I bought our first condo last October.

It has been the best gift ever.

We were able to host Christmas at our place.

My Mom and I were able to cook together and we were all able to sit

as a family and really enjoy each others company.

It is so amazing to be able to have my family (and friends) over whenever I like.

Living with others definitely made me cherish this.

So for me, our home is the best gift ever.

Thank you Mychael, for making sure we have a great little place of our own!

We are hosting Thanksgiving here at our place.

I am so thankful for my parents, and for fiance!

They are my rocks. No matter what they are always there.

Even if I tell them everything is ok.

They know better.

They are always there for me when I need someone to talk to,

or if I just need to meet for a drink and forget my week...

even if just for the night!

I have made some pretty amazing real life friends because of this group.

I am thankful for my job!

Take a Little Time for You

The other night in conversation with The Love I mentioned I needed to take some time for me!

Not time away from him, it's just that I felt like I had put so much time and effort into others and making sure that they were okay, making sure that our joy and happiness that surrounds

our wedding planning, and upcoming holidays didn't get them down

...and in the process I forgot about myself.

There are things that I want to do. I need to let myself be happy. This is a happy time.

I shouldn't have to walk on egg shells, and there's nothing wrong being happy!

So yesterday, since I don't have anyone weighing me down anymore.

I went on over to my local drug store, and picked up some nail polish.

I gave myself a little manicure during lunch, added a little sparkle,

and enjoyed making my nails pretty!

Fiance doesn't understand the glitter on the one finger nail.
I have to say I don't either but I saw it trending on pinterest and think it's uber cute!

Next on the list.
My hair. I ~~want~~ need to have it straightened again.
The curls are getting ridiculous, but then I also want to have some color put in.
Hmmm.. one or the other, or both?
Decisions decisions!

Oh & one of my best friends joined Twitter last night!!

There is so much going on right now between work, school, my little scentsy biz,family health issues and wedding planning that all I really can do is sit back with a lot of things.

This is a giveaway for you offered by the Holly Jolly Art Fest!

The 1st annual Holly Jolly Art Fest will take place on

Saturday, December 10th from 7p-1a

at Khon's wine.darts.coffee.art. at

2808 Milam St.

The festival will be on the rooftop and has a great view of downtown.

There will be 35 vendors featured, and several performances scheduled throughout the night.

Performances include: Yello Echo, The Braggart Family Side Circus (omg circus!), and Doomsday Wrestling.

Ticket prices include entry into the festival, hot chocolate (yum) and a raffle ticket.

The raffle is already huge and donations are still coming in from local businesses.

Sometimes Friendships Head South...

Do you remember this post last week?

The girl who we love that we let sit with us at games,

but mix in alcohol and she gets crazy?

She's gone now.

My fiance sent her a nice message.

..and no not a rude, or sarcastic message, but an actual

nice message telling her that season ticket holders around us

were thinking of not renewing their tickets mainly because of her.

as well as, her not-so-ex (a story all of it's own) who happens to be one of my good

friends wants to buy in our season ticket package next year. and since

she can't stand to be around him it would probably be best she

find a new place to sit.

no hard feelings.

Little did I know, or he know...

word got back around to one of our best friends (and wedding party member)

and she called the girl and ripped her a new one!

she had already been embarrased amongst her friends in nonfootball

related events and she was tired of it.

she left for a few months on vacation and didn't want to come back next season

to only sit by herself.

the people we sit with at games are amazing.

some of them have had season tickets for about 10yrs.

and have sat in the same seats every season!

they bring their children, and grandchildren.

this last home game was electrifying.

the fans were so excited.

and since the girl wasn't there

what happened?

ticket holders around us for the first time turned around to talk with us.

high five us, and find out who we are, what we do.

it was really great! this is the first time this season

that we really enjoyed ourselves!

we also had two men sit with us who this was their FIRST game to come out to

they drove over a hundred miles to come see the game.

they had a blast and are excited to come back next year!

the girl has since deleted us as her friends on facebook.

we should have taken a warning when she had once before told us we were

really the only friends she had.

we should have also taken warning when her not-so-ex told us she

was a nut job.

Fiance also had to hit the delete/block/reject button

on a guy who had been his best friend since he

was in junior high. Sometimes it is just

time to clean up your friendships.

on the bright side, he is "popping the question" to the two remaining groomsmen as we speak!

it has been hard for him, as the guy mentioned above is someone he had

always imagined by his side.

i'll be excited to share our wedding party with y'all soon!

i think we have a great group of loyal friends who are supportive

and will give us a smack if we turn into bride/groomzilla ;-)

it is what it is. i've met some really amazing

people. whom i now call my real life friends.

people will be fake, and you can't do anything about it.

it is a waste of time and energy.

i have learned that i need to open my eyes more.

i need to listen to people when they tell me "eh, something's off"

i try to give everyone an equal chance.

oh & please don't take it personal if i don't respond to a tweet/dm/email right away.

i may have something going on that i can't exactly respond.

i will respond if it's needed, just give me a bit.

...and if your tweet/dm/email is super important and I need to respond

feel free to say "answer me damnit"

...plus i am super scatter brained, so i may forget that i even

need to answer you. i think this caused major issues

last week and into the weekend. major issues.

this past week i was dealing with some family health issues.

just because there wasn't a C word doesn't mean there

aren't other issues at hand.

i value my reputation, both in my "real" life and here in the virtual world.

my blog is very personal, what you see is what you get.

all i can do is try to surround myself with people who are like me.

and people who i feel are being real, open and honest.

if i don't like you, i will *unfollow you, or if you make me mad

about something, i will tell you. promise.

do i love to see that little number in GFC grow? yes. of course. but... if it goes

down because people don't like who i am, or if my posts are boring/not frequent enough...

then so be it. i blog for me, and hope to pick up some virtual and real life friendships along the way.

Hold on to Your Family Tight

Ahhh good day peoples.

My Dad had a colonoscopy done this morning.

They removed 3 polyps... tested them...

and yay benign!

My Mom said when he woke up the first thing he wanted to do was call me.

So we talked, he sounded great, and in good spirits.

He had been having stomach pains a lot recently.

So hopefully this was the cause of it

and now we are done.

My Dad hasn't been very lucky on the health side of things.

So I am really glad I didn't get a phone call

saying it was the C word.

As an only child my biggest fear is losing my parents.

I know I have my soon to be hubby, and

my parents have already considered him

a part of the family for years.

...but as fiance says, we are the 3 musketeers.

Can't wait for Thanksgiving to make more memories with them.

Heading over to my parents house tonight, Dad wants

to see me =)

Hold on to your family tight.

You never know when they might not be there.

this is why i hate forming relationships with anyone.

why, when every single time, i am let down.

people push me, encourage me,

then they just turn on

me.

i am left here confused & crying.

no one wants to say anything to anyone.

afraid of hurt feelings.

afraid of looking like the bitch.

or just don't have the balls to speak up.

i am pretty good at speaking my mind.

i don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

so i don't usually say anything until i have had enough.

right now i am put in this situation yet again.

we have our group of people we sit with at games.

we are all donors, and have season tickets.

except for one person.

that one person, we love.

adore, super sweet, and fun loving.

this is why we let her sit with us...but,

bring in alcohol...which, it's college football.

it will be there...

and well this person turns into a completely different person.

one who is rude, and disrespectful.

someone who you don't want to be around.

no one wants to say anything. no one wants to hurt her feelings.

so we all just sit there, frustrated, and angered by her.

i don't feel it's my place to say anything to her.

i didn't bring her into the group and i only talk to her

during the football season. i've known her and have hung out with

her the least amount of time.

yet... in order to rectify the situation i am going to be the one that has to say something.

i've already said i wouldn't renew my ticket next season if she is still there

...yet i stand. unheard. told to not be silly.

ignore her.

so. do i ignore her? sit there and get angered every single home game?

or end up hurting her feelings telling her she can't handle her alcohol.

and as a collective group we don't want her sitting with us.

no one can bring anyone to the games, you will most definitley be embarrased.

think about bringing a client? no way.

bring your boss? think again.

want to network with other alum sitting around you.

yea, okay. because they want your type of people around them....

i feel unbelievably defeated.

i am confused in twit/blog land as people tell me they can't stand

(insert name here) yet all you see is convos between the people

they can't stand. it's like you don't know

who your friends, or enemies are.

and i question whether or not i want to continue networking.

do i want to continue sponsoring because i want to

grow my little scentsy business.

i just want to crawl into a whole.

Ahhh hello Monday!

Over the weekend I was finally able to watch Matt Nathanson's performance

at the CMA's with Sugarland.

I was blown away and unbelievably excited for him.
This is HUGE!

I 1st discovered Matt Nathanson around 2007, he toured with Lifehouse.

I was in love with the artist I had never heard of before.

He was interactive with the crowd, he was funny, and his music was amazing.

Then, in 2008 he was coming to the Scout Bar in Houston.

Almost my back yard! I had to go!

Ike hit, and the tickets were in my desk at home.

When I came back, they were there... but I could barely make them out.

Plus the tickets were stuck together. I called the manager at the Scout Bar and told him what happened

He emailed me and told me to bring the email with me, he understood and would let me in

anyhow. I wasn't myself, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to socialize yet...

but Fiance and I went to the concert. Our table was maybe 2ft from the stage.

It was a very intimate concert.
Again he was interactive with the crowd, full of energy!!!
He made me laugh.

Matt Nathanson's music will always and forever hold a special place in my heart.

That night, he took my mind off everything that was wrong, and uncertain in my life.

He hasn't come to Houston yet, and I was sooo tempted to go to Austin,
but a little birdie told us not to worry, he would be touring Houston..
I can't wait to go and see him live again.

If you get a chance, go see him.
It's a show you won't regret going to.

P.S. Fiance always says that this song reminds him of me.

It's really been an It's OK past couple of weeks.

It's OK...

that I haven't really written a true blog post since almost two weeks ago...

that I've been kinda depressy for the past two weeks...

that I feel as if I've been knocked down and can't get back up...

that I can't believe how much people are behind the firing of Paterno, I guess the next time I hear that you may be doing something wrong I'll just go ahead and shout it out to the world. Ya know, who cares if I didn't see it first hand. Let's just assume and possibly wrongly ruin your life...

that you're probably thinking "you don't understand, you don't have children"... I was that child... I spoke up AT THE TIME

that I was so super nervous about our engagement shoot, and I just knew they were going to turn out horrible. Fiance would look great, I wouldn't. World ends...

that my Dad has to go in for testing and I am a ~~little scared~~ very scared of what the results may be, or what the doctor is looking for...

Marco 03/05/1995 - 10/28/2011

I watched Marco be born on March 5, 1995. He was a cute chubby little kitten.

No one wanted him because he was so fluffy, and because he had a gray mark on his head.

As if someone dipped their finger in paint and dabbed it on his head.

My parents told me I could keep him if I wanted and I did.

Marco was my kitty, not the family cat, but mine!

He grew and was quite large.

He suited me perfectly.

We would stay in my bedroom lay on my bed and watch TV.

He layed next to me, or at my feet.

He slept on my baby pillow.

When Hurricane Ike hit and my family had to split up, Marco came with me.

He loved Fiance, but... living with him...

Marco would leave when Fiance would come in the room and come back when Fiance left.

A little jealousy I think.

In May of 2009 Marco was diagnosed with Feline Diabetes.

I thought I was losing my baby boy. The vet said it was a death sentence,

he said I needed to put him to sleep.

I cried for days, how can I lose my little man.

What did I do wrong?

How does a cat get diabetes?

Then Fiance found FelineDiabetes.com

He told me he was reading on their forum that it wasn't a death sentence.

So one early morning I sat down, and poured my heart out to them.

I was scared, and I didn't want to lose my little man.

They held my hand, they told me this wasn't a big deal. IT IS treatable.

They told me to change his diet to a low card wet food diet.

Done, it brought his numbers from almost 600 to around 200.

Holy crap! They told me to find a new vet.

Done. Then I found a specialist.

The ladies from FDMB helped me so much. They explained everything to me.

Taught me how to home test Marco's blood sugar & understand it.

Helped me changed my cats dose, because ECID (every cat is different),

helped me when I was scared and didn't want my cat to go too low.

I developed a new type of bond with Marco, and I felt I understood him more.

Fiance developed a relationship with Marco during our sugar dance.

This made my heart oh so happy.

We developed routines, and learn so much about feline health.

Who knew!?

Marco went off of insulin, something his vets didn't think would happen.

They looked at my logs and said Marco's treatment and response to insulin was exactly

how they learned it should be in school! They had never seen that.

I let them know it was all thanks to FDMB.

Marco came with us to our new home last October,

he quickly claimed his spots in the house. Mostly the couch!

If we have guests over he wanted to know who and why people are in his spot....

He helped me put up groceries, I'd have to pull out the drawers so the fridge door wouldn't smash him.

We bought him lifted bowls so that in his old age he wouldn't have to bend down so low.

Every morning he'd wake up, and we'd have our daily conversation as I'd prepare

his breakfast bowl. Then we'd go into the guest bathroom where he would lay

on the bathmat while I would get ready for work.

Last Friday I woke up expecting to start my day as normal.

...but Marco didn't come to greet me.

He had a rough night because there was poo in the living room.

He was laying in the dining room...

I went to pet him, which would usually get him to pop up and start chatting...

he didn't get up. He didn't blink...

Then I realized he was laying in his own feces.

I woke up Fiance and told him something was really wrong.

Marco isn't getting up.

Marco's breathing was shallow and I layed my head on him, his heart rate was rapid.

My little man wasn't getting up at all and I could tell he wasn't feeling very well.

Fiance told me "honey, I think he's going"

My heart broke. I called the emergency vet clinic.

I hoped they would tell me, "oh he's just got a tummy ache" or something simple.

Instead it was, "something is very wrong here, something big, it's not his diabetes"

I spoke with the vet, told him I love my Marco but the most important thing is his quality of life.

I don't want to put him through test after test, only to PTS, or to buy him a couple miserable months.

We talked, Fiance and I thought.... and we knew Marco was ready to go.

I knew I had made the right decision when the brought Marco back to me and he was basically lifeless.

My little man... he didn't even look like the Marco I knew....

He looked so helpless, so miserable, so ready...

I couldn't let him suffer.

We helped Marco cross over at 730am 10/28/11.

We petted him, told him we loved him, and told him he'd get to be with his Mom again.

He would be pain free, diabetes free, and could run and play like a kitten again.

We covered him in his blanky, and let him know we were there as the vet pushed the

medications to put him to sleep forever.

Fly free Marco, and land softly.
I know your Mom, MK, is there with you, along with all
of your friends from Lantus Land...
Come visit me from time to time...
I miss you so much already,
until we meet again sweet boy.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Beef Enchiladas

Celia's Beef Enchilada's

Last week I tweeted and facebooked a photo of our dinner.

We happened to be having beef enchiladas, rice and beans.

I was shocked when I received messages from people wanting to know how I made them!

So I decided to share here as well.

This is a super easy, and quick meal to make.

Ingredients:

1lb lean ground beef

1 packet of your favorite taco seasoning (or season to taste)

6-8 flour or corn tortillas

can of your favorite no bean chili (or homemade chili)

1 package of either mozzarella cheese or sharp cheese.

Directions:

1.) preheat oven to 375F

2.) brown ground meat & add in taco seasoning.

3.) warm chili in small sauce pan.

4.) set out tortillas.

5.) spoon taco meat into tortillas as desired.

6.) sprinkle with a little cheese & roll up.

7.) set enchiladas in a row in a baking dish.

8.) spread chili evenly across enchiladas.

9.) sprinkle cheese across enchiladas. use as little or as much as you want. in total i use about half of the cheese.

10.) pop in the oven for about 10-15mins or until cheese is evenly melted.

11.) let cool for a few minutes, and get your favorite rice & beans and enjoy!

So here's the rub. I like cuddling as much as the next guy. Cuddling is like anything else, it's great in moderation. I love cuddling on the sofa while watching a movie or even just reading while Celia blogs. My favorite though is when she sits next to me in my pickup (I've got an old single cab with a bench seat) and I can rest my arm around her, or on her legs.

When Celia first moved in with me after the Storm she was an emotional train wreck, and had every right to be. She just had the life she knew completely stripped from her and everything she knew or loved was gone. She moved into my childhood bedroom while I was finishing up school at the University of Houston, and I wanted to make things as easy as I could.

I held her hand before she fell asleep, because I wanted her to know that no matter what happened over the next few months (what turned out to be two years) I wasn't going to leave her side. It was then that I first heard the song "Heartbreak World" by Matt Nathanson and from that point forward the song became our song (at least to me).

That said, those events took place a while ago. We now live in our home, are engaged and life is as good as its been for us in a long time. Like I said before I still love cuddling on the sofa or riding with my arm around her in my ol' pickup. However, for the bulk of my life I've slept the same way. On my side, with one pillow under my head and a feather pillow in my arms. That is how it is. Cuddling before makes it difficult for to get comfortable, and while she says I should cuddle her at least until she falls asleep I'd be willing to bet I beat her to it most nights.

I'm definitely an affectionate person, and I need that touch also. But when its time for sleep, I'll thank you to stay on your side of the bed...

When I first moved in with Mychael after Hurricane Ike about 3 years ago we fell asleep holding hands.

I went from living with my parents, to suddenly driving back from Dallas to Houston...homeless & split apart from my parents. I was scared, and felt alone.

Falling asleep with him in his childhood room holding hands was the best feeling ever.

I knew that everything was going to be okay.

He would be there for me, and he was going to protect me.

I know I am safe with him here at home.
...but I still like the cuddles in bed. I swear, every night we spend about 5mins
bickering over cuddles. I want to cuddle. He tells me he doesn't cuddle.

Ridgemont Reserve - Whiskey Brownies

It's no secret amongst our friends that Mychael is a whiskey guy.

I have been searching for whiskey recipes.

Then, I found a recipe for homemade Jack Daniel's brownies on food.com

Super easy y'all!

Ingredients:

3/4 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup sugar

1/3 cup Crisco shortening

2 tablespoons water

6oz. chocolate chips (I used Nestle)

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/3 - 1/2 cup Ridgemont Reserve*

Glaze:

6oz chocolate chips

2 tablespoons butter

Directions:

1.) Set oven to 350F

2.) Grease a 9-inch square pan.

3.) In a bowl, sift together, flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

4.) In a saucepan, combine sugar, shortening and water; cook over low heat to a light boil. Add in chocolate chips and vanilla; stir until smooth. Add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add in flour mixture and nuts. Stir well.

5.) Put mix into the prepared baking pan. Spread evenly.

6.) Bake for 25-30 minutes.

7.) Remove from pan, slowly and evenly pour Ridgemont Reserve on top. Cool.

8.) For glaze: Melt chocolate chips with butter in small sauce pan, or in the microwave, stir until smooth. Spread over brownies.

*we didn't have Jack Daniel's at the house so I substituted Ridgemont instead.

Mychael loved the brownies.

He sent his coworker teasing photos of the brownies.

I, on the other hand, do not like whiskey...

but prior to the whiskey taste in my mouth they were yummy!

Beauty Secrets: My makeup bag

Today we are going to go through my makeup bag.

People have randomly asked me what makeup I use.

So I figured I would share right here.

Compared to some girls I wear very minimal makeup.

Others... I wear a lot. I honestly think it's nada.

I have 5 items in my makeup bag.

Yup, that's it. Five.

Here are the products I am currently using.

Neutrogena Skin Clearing Blemish Concealer - $8.00

I usually only use this around my eyes to create a smoother pallet for eyeshadow.

....and it may just be my mind but it seems like at the end of the day I don't look as tired.

Covergirl's Trublend Minerals $7.99 @ Target

This is actually my first time using this make up.

(I use an Elf brush to apply)

I typically use Revlon's ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup.

I like this one. It seems to give my face a natural glow, and it's light.

I hate feeling like my face is full of makeup!

The Revlon one I typically use is great if you need coverup.

So I may buy some to keep on hand. =)

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow - Not Just Nudes $4.94

First time usuing this as well. I'm not much of a "name" person when it comes to makeup...

This is great. Brightens my eyes when I want to wear some eyeshadow.

Goes on smoothly, and lasts all day.

Best of all, it doesn't gunk up in the crease.

Mary Kay Waterproof Mascara - Black $10

This is my favorite mascara ever in life!

It is seriously the best.

Use it.

Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner - Target $7.49

I've been changing the eyeliner I use lately...

I've used pencil, they just don't seem the same after sharpening.

I've used liquid... I'm not great at drawing straight lines.

This one... I LOVE it goes on sooo smooth and so straight!

I haven't had to sharpen it yet... in fact I may have to do some research.

Do I use a regular sharpener on this one?

Hmmm...

Please note: this makeup works perfectly for me and my skin.

I tend to have oily skin around my nose, cheeks, and forehead.

Dry skin around my chin.

Products may differ on your skin.

Are you going to defriend me now because I'm not all high maintenance when it comes to my makeup?

No? Aww... didn't think so! ;-)

Ahhh hello weekend!

Although we do love hosting watch parties at our place.

Do you know what we love even more?

This year we have been able to tailgate with one of my Bridesmaids, Bobby, and her fabulous boyfriend Jesse!

So much fun!

...and The Original Tailgating girls are back at it again this year!

In exactly one year I will be marrying the most handsome & most intelligent man I know.

(besides my Dad of course)

I will be marrying the one guy who finally wasn't afraid to tell me "no" when I wanted something.

The only guy who didn't tell me he loved me within a couple months.

Did you know I always told my parents I would never get married.

I am not the girl that has dreamt of her wedding since she was a little girl.

I didn't seriously start thinking about marriage until I met Mychael.

There was something about him.

I felt ridiculously comfortable.

I felt like I could be me when I was with him.

The only people on this earth that I let my guard down around are my parents.

Yet... I felt the same way with Mychael.

We just click!

365 Project

Most of you probably have, but for those of you who haven't...

The 365 project is where you snap a photo a day, for 365 days.

That's one year of your life.

It can be of anything.

I am starting my project 365 tomorrow!

It marks one year from a very special day!

...and I would like to document it as much as possible.

Don't look for a posting from me every day.

Perhaps once a week. :-)

I've attempted this several times.

Maybe this time I will stick with it!

I absolutely love the products and I love the company.

Several of you asked me to do blog post on what my favorite Scentsy scents (flavors as I sometimes call them!) are.

So, here we go!

Currently I am loving Pumpkin Marshmallow!

It's the perfect fall scent!

I also love Pumpkin Roll!

For a clean scent I can't get enough of Pima Cotton.
It smells like fresh laundry.
So refreshing!

another really great clean scent is Nursery Room.

Smells just like a baby!

I like fruit smells too!

I love Camu Camu, and Sweet Pea & Vanilla.

OH and Perfectly Pomegranate! oooh and Black Raspberry Vanilla!
....and Mulberry Bush!

...and another fave is My Dear Watson!

Smells like a super sexy man!

If you are married or living with your boyfriend/fiance you may want to warn him

before he storms in the door looking for the super sexy man! ;)

I have the big brick of Vanilla Cream because I love it so!
It nice and subtle. Although you may want to bake
because if you haven't your guests may be
a tad disappointed...
